Clarinet
Dr. Vanessa Davis is a clarinetist and teacher based in Dallas who has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada. She regularly gives masterclasses and recitals at colleges and universities across the United States. As an ensemble musician, she plays clarinet in the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and second and Eb clarinet with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra while actively freelancing throughout DFW. She has appeared with the Texarkana Symphony, Longview Symphony, Allen Philharmonic, McKinney Philharmonic and Sherman Symphonies. Prior to current appointments, she performed in the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, and freelanced in Boston.
Dr. Davis is an active and committed educator and mentor. Currently, she teaches at McLennan College, North Central Texas College, and select Texas ISDs. Her students have been successful in reaching their career goals, being awarded college scholarships, and incorporating music into their lives post-graduation. Prior appointments include Stephen F. Austin State University, the University of North Texas, and Ithaca College.
Dr. Davis is an active member of several professional organizations. She is the Audio Reviews Editor of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Journal. She is an audio and book reviewer for the journal of the International Clarinet Association, The Clarinet, and has contributed to the College Music Society Symposium Journal, and The Instrumentalist. She has also served as chair of the International Clarinet Association College and Pre-Professional Engagement Committee as well as the Youth Committee.
Dr. Davis is a Buffet Crampon Performing Artist and a D’Addario Woodwind Artist. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Literature in Clarinet from the University of North Texas where she held Teaching Fellowships in Music Education and Wind Studies departments. Her dissertation won the Toulouse Dissertation Award in Fine Arts in 2018. She also holds degrees from the Ithaca College School of Music (Master of Music in Clarinet Performance) and the University of New Hampshire (Bachelor of Music in Music Education). Dr. Davis has studied with Dr. Kimberly Luevano, Daryl Coad, Richard MacDowell, Dr. Richard Faria, Dr. Elizabeth Gunlogson, and David Seiler.
